Age 6 and 7 year old
Introduction to the Kitchen
6 and 7 year olds learn about cooking by watching, feeling, smelling, tasting and hands-on experiences. Just letting little chefs help, even if it’s only adding cheese or crushing chips that go on top of a casserole, will teach them a lot. Their attention span is shorter so smaller tasks are better. It is important to start teaching about kitchen safety and nutrition.
Does your 7 year old have these skills? If so, you can enroll him or her in our Chef in Training class.
Skills Covered:
• Scrubbing vegetables and fruits.
• Assembling snacks
• Washing table with a cleaning rag
• Tearing lettuce
• Stirring dough
• Spreading with a child safe knife
• Pouring ingredients
• Adding pre-measured ingredients
• Gathering ingredients
• Help setting table
• Greasing pans
• Peeling eggs, oranges, bananas
• Crushing chips, crackers, etc. for toppings
We will be addressing everything above, along with nutritional lessons, food history, and table manners. We will also go over some common kitchen utensils, like spatulas, whiskers (MEOW!) and melon ballers. We will create some yummy and fun snacks, like apple frogs, egg boats and butterfly fruit!
